Freelance Programmer

What is a freelance programmer you may ask?

The shortest definition is "a programmer that doesn't attach himself to any one employer."  You can trace freelancing back to mercenary work; same principle.

Freelance programmer has all the essential tools needed to complete the task given to him.  For employer that means that you don't have to provide a freelancer with any tools, and trust me those can be quite expensive.  Standard edition of Visual Studio 2005, which is a programming environment, costs around $250, and if you have only one or two programs to write, its really isn't worth hiring an in-house programmer, and supplying him with the software.

Rent A Coder

Now that we are familiar with freelancing, its time to show you where to get one.  One of the sites that offer over 192,173 freelancers is www.rentacoder.com

RAC(short for rentacoder) has programmers that specialize in:

  • Cpp, C, C#
  • Visual Basic 6.0
  • Visual Basic.NET

My history with RAC:

I have completed 16 jobs on RentACoder with highest possible feedback.

My latest job completed was:

Download comics, transfer them to PDF

My specialty would be data entry.  Whether its uploading products to an E-Commerce site, or uploading pictures to a site, I can do them all.  Generally if its simple enough to do I can do it.
I am also capable of installing small php scripts to a site, converting files to PDF, and much more.

The first thing you probably want to do is register with Rent A Coder..

If you are already a member of the site then you can either post a private bid for me, or post a public bid.

Here are several tips when choosing the coder:

  • If your project costs $100 or more, don't choose a coder with low rankings.
  • Lowest bid doesn't always mean good.  RAC has a coder page that lets you know everything about the coder. Review it before accepting the bid.
  • If your bid is less then $20, you may consider a coder with low rankings.
  • If the coder has low score and high amount of jobs completed, it usually means that previous customers weren't satisfied with him/her, so don't choose him.
  • When coder completes his or her job, be sure to leave him a rating, as it helps both him and you.
  • Don't ask for illegal content. Read RAC's rules of what you can and cannot post,  otherwise your bid request will be rejected by RAC's staff.
